Darego was also the first indigenous African to win the Miss World title in Sun City, South Africa, and has remained a role model to the average young African girl who dreams to equal her feat.
A projected global television audience of 1.2 billion people watched 18-year-old Miss Nigeria, Agbani Darego became the first black African to win the Miss World title at Sun City, South Africa, November 16, 2001.
