Sloane Stephens shared that she has received more than 2,000 threatening messages of racial abuse and anger following her recent U.S. Open loss. “This is just another example of how social media can be one of the worse inventions ever made,” says Hill. “While I think it’s one of the greatest inventions ever, it’s also one of the worse inventions ever made, because some people who have a voice, should not.” Sherman says words are weapons and that social media platforms need to be held accountable when users repeatedly cross boundaries without any consequences.
