The Roots of Black Essence is a place where you can come to be inspired, motivated, and see what lies beneath the struggle and dedication of our heritage. Our intention is to show young black leaders what they are capable of by viewing black excellence in the past, present, and future.


This special explores the deep-seated racism behind images that reflected Jim Crow - black face, Aunt Jemima, and many others. While U.S. culture is trying to correct history by taking down confederate statues, banning the confederate flag, and removing images like Aunt Jemima from packages, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.
