From 1312 C.E. to 1337 C.E., Mansa Musa (Musa I of Mali) was the ruler of Mali. Mali was one of Africa's wealthiest kingdoms during his reign, and Mansa Musa was one of the world's wealthiest men. Mali, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Mauritania, and Burkina Faso were all part of the ancient Mali kingdom, which spanned modern-day Mali, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Mauritania, and Burkina Faso. Mansa Musa transformed cities such as Timbuktu and Gao into major cultural hubs. He also commissioned architects from the Middle East and Africa to create new structures for his settlements.
